It is the world’s fifth largest country, both by geographical area and by population. It is the only Portuguese-speaking country in the Americas and the largest lusophone country in the world. Bounded by the Atlantic Ocean on the east, Brazil has a coastline of over 7491 kilometers (4655 mi). It is bordered on the north by Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname and the French overseas department of French Guiana; on the northwest by Colombia; on the west by Bolivia and Peru; on the southwest by Argentina and Paraguay and on the south by Uruguay. Numerous archipelagos form part of Brazilian territory, such as Fernando de Noronha, Rocas Atoll, Saint Peter and Paul Rocks, and Trindade and Martim Vaz. It has borders with all other South American countries apart from Ecuador and Chile. Fifth and last part of the Parade of Nations of the XV Pan American Games celebrated in Rio, Brazil. After the end of the Parade of Nations, Ana Costa and Arnaldo Antunes returned to stage to perform a reprise of the games theme ”Viva Essa Energia”, as fireworks formed the roman numbers ”XV” (the fifteen edition of the games) Roberto Minczuk and the Rio de Janeiro’s symphony ochestra performed an Hymn to the 2007 Pan Am Games to start the cultural performances.

After passing throught most of the brazilian territory, the Pan American Flame finally arrived at Maracana Stadium for the Opening Ceremony of the XV Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro. LIST OF THE FINAL TORCHBEARERS (IN ORDER): 1)Lars Grael (Men’s Sailing bronze medallist, Seoul 1988 and Atlanta 1996) 2)Brazilan Volleyball Team which won the gold at Barcelona 1992 Olympics 3) Brazilian women basketball team which won the silver medal at Atlanta 1996 4)Sandra Pires (Beach Volleyball, gold medallist at Atlanta 1996, bronze in Sydney 2000) 5)Gustavo Borges (Men’s Swimming, silver medal in Atlanta 1996 and Sydney 2000, at 100m and 200m freestyle) 6) Joaquim Cruz (Men’s Athletics, Olympic gold medalist at Los Angeles 1984, Seoul 1988 silver medal) The cauldron had the shape of a Sun and started to rotate once the fire was lit. It was originally planned to be placed above the stadium, but the roof couldn’t support the weight.
